Residents of Asaba, the capital of Delta state can now look to the rains without fear of flooding following the near completion of storm drainage system through strategic areas of the state.
TVC News Ikenna Amechi who was in the team of the state governor as he inspects the projects, reports that due to the closeness of Asaba to River Niger and its low level terrain, it is prone to flash floods resulting from rain.
This was made worst with increase in population as more buildings sprang up, some of which are not inline with the master plan of the city, blocking the natural channels to vent the rain water.
Attempts have been made to ensure proper channelling of the rain water but this time with massive storm drainage system it has gone a long way to checking this major challenge of the city.
The governor who is on an inspection to the three outlets points of storm drainage system expressed satisfaction with the contractors handling the project and said with huge fund involved in the construction, the five more needed to completely rid the city of flood will be done gradually
