The seventh Katsina State House of Assembly has been inaugurated and has re-elected Tasiu Maigari as speaker.Most of the members were re-elected for second term with an overwhelming victory during the last elections. The assembly has thirty four members who all came in under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
Abdullatif Yusuf reports that the inauguration of the 7th assembly and election of its new leadership, is another political landmark in the state.
The sixth assembly passed 80 bills, including the Zakkar and Aukaf law, the katsina state security and road traffic agency and the Revenue
harmonisation law. It is a feat the seventh assembly hopes to surpass.
The newly elected speaker for the second time Tasiu Musa Maigari who emerged by scoring more votes than his opponent Nasir Yahaya Daura,
supposedly backed by the state government.
Among the major Challenges faced by the last assembly were the constant changes in leadership of the assembly, with a change of three speakers
during the last dispensation.
Similarly, there was alleged mismanagement of funds among the top management of the assembly, a problem that led to factions in the house.
