The African Diplomatic group has announced a donation of 1.5 million naira to the National Commission for refugees, migrants and internally displaced persons in Nigeria
This donation is to buttress the theme of this year’s Africa Day as ‘The year of refugees, Returnees, and internally displaced persons.
Moyo Thomas reports that it was night of tradition, cuisine and dance, as everything African was put on display at the celebration of the 56th Africa day in Abuja.
The Africa day is ordinarily celebrated on the 25th of May every year, but this year its anniversary fell within the Ramadan month, which caused it to be postponed to the 14th of June.
On the 25th of May, 1963, 32 African countries who had attained independence came together to form the Organization of African Unity (OAU) now known as African Union.
This year the African diplomatic group is making a donation to help the plight of refugees across Nigeria.
