The spate of kidnapping in Abaji area council is giving residents grave concern and creating distrust among residents.
The situation is made worse by informants in the communities whom the police are battling to identify.
Residents live in fear in the wake of a surge in kidnapping for ransom.
In November 2018, the Vice-chairman of the Area Council was killed, 10 days after he was kidnapped. Ever since, the Area Council is replete with tales of kidnapping.
A man who was fortunate to regain his freedom 3 days after he was kidnapped on the 19th of May recounted his ordeal to TVC News Correspondent, Sifon Essien
The man who refused to be identified said getting to the kidnappers camp, he saw about 30 persons being held against their will in terrible conditions.
He said the identity of his kidnappers were not concealed.
The spate of kidnapping has affected businesses in the area.
The police operation to stem the tide of kidnapping is yielding results, but slowly. Several arrests have been made.
The police Commissioner visited Abaji to solicit for citizens’ participation in getting his community policing strategy to work faster.
While the police are gathering more intelligence to tackle the problem, the reality of kidnapping stares residents in the face.
