Super Eagles’ coach, Gernot Rohr says he is optimistic of a better performance in Nigeria’s second game of the on-going African Cup of Nations against Guinea.
The Eagles struggled to beat Burundi 1-0, but the team attributed the stuttering performance to the sickness suffered by key players just before the opening Group B fixture played at the Egyptian Mediterranean city of Alexandria on Saturday.
Burundi held on until the 77th minute before substitute Odion Ighalo broke their hearts with a sublime finish from Ola Aina’s exquisite pass.
Rohr kept faith with Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi who has now started the side’s last four games, and insisted he is satisfied with his performance in the game despite a number of howlers by the goalie.
The Super Eagles will face the Syli National of Guinea in their next Group B game on Wednesday at the Alexandria Stadium.
