Eleven additional bodies have been recovered from a boat accident that occurred at the Egbin jetty last Saturday night in Lagos
The boat which was said to be on its way to Egbin in Ikorodu from Ajah capsized due to overloading and a faulty engine.
Speaking with TVC News, chairman of the local council development area, Salisu Futiau says he is concerned about the number of unlicensed boat operators in Ikorodu.
Minutes turned into hours as residents await patiently the local fishermen who had been asked to help retrieve the bodies of their loved ones.
Tosin received a call from her husband at about 8pm on Saturday informing her,he was on his way from work. Little did she know that her husband, would return this way; washed upshore by the sea.
As at the time TVC News crew got to the Egbin water jetty, there was no one from the Lagos State emergency Management agency or other relevant agencies to help in the recovery of bodies. Our Crew was also told that non of the passengers in the ill-fated boat wore a life jacket.
After the six bodies found early on Monday, more bodies were recovered later in the afternoon after a long wait.
The chairman of Ijede LCDA is concerned that the waterways transport system might be endangered if laws are not enforced.
The reality of this incident may not be felt immediately in the hearts of persons who have lost their loved ones here at the egbin water jetty but the coming days will show how residents are able to come to terms with the loss.
