Nigeria has signed an agreement with the United States on food security.
The agreement is for the implementation of USAID’s five year “feed the future” strategic plan, aimed at deepening agricultural productivity in Nigeria.
Feed the future is a U.S government initiative co-ordinated by the United States Agency for International Development USAID. It targets reduction in global poverty, malnutrition and hunger.
Gfx target states span different geopolitical zones including the north east. The project aims at developing prioritised agriculture value chains with potentials for increased productivity and better market linkages.
The plan expects to give those displaced by insurgency a new chance at improved livelihoods too.
Nigeria is one of the twelve feed the future focus countries.
The new plan will build on successes of a $165m Feed the future investment in Nigeria since 2015.
