President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan has sworn in Benjamin Uwajunogu as Senator representing Imo North, in Imo State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Thursday in Abuja, issued Certificate of Return to the lawmaker as the winner of the Imo North Senatorial District election under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mr Uwajumogu, a former senator, was issued the certificate on Thursday at about 4 p.m. at INEC Headquarters in Abuja.
Speaking after receiving his certificate of return, the senator-elect (then), commended the judiciary for standing by truth. He also commended INEC for obeying court order, which directed that he should be issued the certificate, and pledged to rededicate himself to serving Imo North better than he did in the 8th senate.
Recall that Justice Taiwo Taiwo of a Federal High Court, Abuja had earlier in the month ordered INEC to immediately issue a Certificate of Return to Mr Uwajumogu.
Mr Uwajumogu had approached the court seeking for an order to compel INEC to issue him the certificate after the failure of the electoral body to declare him winner of the senatorial election over an allegation of irregularities.
