Triangle Limited, Zimbabwe’s sole sugar producer is planning to construct a plant to extract the carbon dioxide, a vital ingredient in brewing soft drinks by 2020.
The country expects that this will save a huge amount of foreign currency used to import the product.
This will also revive the beverage sector that currently operates below capacity due to shortage of the ingredient.
The Production is projected to start in the next six months as Carbon dioxide will be extracted from steam gas emitted during the processing of ethanol from molasses, a byproduct from raw sugar processing.
