Non-academic workers in Nigeria’s Universities have issued a fresh 14-day ultimatum to the federal government over issues concerning their welfare. SSANU and NASU said they will grind activities at the universities to a halt, should the National Assembly fail to broker a meaningful truce.
After one week of a warning strike, the senior staff association of Nigeria universities and the non academic staff union have now resolved to commence an indefinite industrial action.
The strike is planned to begin after the expiration of a fourteen day ultimatum which starts from the fifth of August, 2019.
At the university of Abuja, students are just resuming for the second semester. They say another strike, after the last, will not augur well for the nation’s educational system
The aggrieved workers say the intervention of the National Assembly has not been fruitful and are hoping something tangible will be achieved before the next 14 days. They plan to intensify their protests to press home their demands
Among others, the non academic workers are asking the federal government to give to them their accumulated earned allowances and obey a court judgement which said it should fund the Univeristy Staff Schools.
