Many of the world’s top tri-athletes battled the heat and humidity in Tokyo on Friday at the International Triathlon Union Olympic qualifying race, which doubled as a test event for the Games.
A day after, the women’s race had to be shortened over heat concerns, the men’s event went ahead at the venue for next year’s Olympics in slightly cooler conditions, aided by grey skies.
Although the race, eventually won by Canadian Tyler Mislawchuk, was competitive for most tri-athletes the contest was about surviving the stifling humidity
