The House of Representatives said it is poised to use every constitutional means to ensure that parliamentary summons are no longer rebuffed by Ministries, departments and agencies of government.
Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila disclosed this while receiving a delegation of the Bureau of Public Sector Reform in Abuja.
National Assembly Correspondent, Joke Adisa reports that the Bureau of Public Service Reforms was established in 2004 as an
independent and self accounting body.
Its mission is to facilitate the building of Nigeria’s Public Service into a highly professional and result oriented institution.
A team of the Bureau led by its Director General is before the leadership of the House of Representatives to seek ways of deepening collaboration
with the National Assembly to attain set standards in the public service.
The leader of the visiting team emphasizes the need for the development of public service in the country
In his response, Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila said the development of any country depends largely on the strength and organization of its human
resources and urges the bureau not to relent in creating the desired change in the public service.
He stresses the urgent need for the bureau to wade into the act of brazen disregard for the parliament as an institution, by officials of government,
particularly when needed by the legislators during oversight functions
Mr. Gbajabiamila also canvasses legal backing for some government policies as a way of making them more effective
To be able to do better as regards its mandate to initiate, coordinate and ensure full implementation of government reform policies and programmes,
the visiting team seeks better funding, ahead of the 2020 budget.
