The Benue State Government has announced that it will hold local government elections, tentatively on the 30th of November this year.Governor Samuel Ortom announced this when he inaugurated Chairmen and members of two Commissions and a member of Benue State Independent Electoral Commission in Government House, in Makurdi.
Mayowa Okunato reports that the Local Government Service Commission is vested with the exclusive right of appointment, promotion, disciplinary control of all Local Government Officers. The last local government elections in Benue was conducted in June 2017
Governor Samuel Ortom urged the Chairman and members of BSIEC to work hard towards elections in that tier of government.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, the Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Bem Melladu pledged to help the state change the
narrative at the local government level.
Later in an interview, the Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, pledged to ensure free and fair elections at the local
government level.
All appointees are expected to support this administration developing the state as Governor Ortom will be personally supervising them to ensure that
the desired results are achieved.
