In his 80 page manifesto, tagged “Renewed Hope 2023 Action Plan for a Better Nigeria” Security is top of the list of the many issues he will address immediately if he elected the next President of Nigeria.
Tinubu restated that the country needs an “experienced torchbearer” to guide it through the doors of security, prosperity and greatness.
He said his experience as Lagos State Governor where he transformed the state to one of the leading economies in Africa places him in the best position to help achieve this with Shettima.
Speaking on the 80 paged document, a former deputy governor of Lagos state and APC Chieftain, Otunba Femi Pedro said the document “Renewed 2023” is Asiwaju’s brain work.
According to Otunba Pedro, the document is a combination of decades of Asiwaju Tinubu’s vision and thinking about a better Nigeria.
“Every sentence, every age has its input in it. Some of the words he utters are also in the document.
“This is Asiwaju’s document in conjunction with the Party because it was vetted and in consultation with all members.
He stated that the manifesto is a comprehensive document that addresses every aspect of governance in Nigeria, as well as every problem and issue that Nigerians face.
“Asiwaju is prepared to confront the challenges that Nigeria faces today, which is why he has a 16-cadinal agenda that covers every area. This manifesto has an impact on everyone. The young, the old, women, youth, poor, middle-class, wealthy, private, public, and civil servants. It covers the gamut of Nigeria activities and industry,” Otunba Pedro added.
The former Lagos state deputy governor noted that there are several new ideas that have come up due to serious, deep thinking about how to solve present challenges of which Security is one area.
“If you look at the document Asiwaju used the word, ‘obliterate’, which means ‘to wipe out’. Obliterate banditry, terrorism, kidnapping.
“Asiwaju in the document is trying to communicate to Nigerians that help is here and we need not worry.
According to him, part of the initiative is to create a special force of trained and skilled security personnel who would tackle banditry and they’re going to use modern weaponry, intelligence technology, area surveillance, and otherss to fight terrorism.
He added that every Nigerian will have an identity so that activities of terrorism can be tracked.
“If you don’t have an ID, you’re not a Nigerian, and we can track you down.” And if you have an identity, you will be tracked whenever you enter a bank to conduct a banking transaction or purchase something. Your every move is being recorded. That is the concept behind national identity management as a weapon in the fight against terrorism and all forms of criminal activity.
Still talking about security and establishment of neighbourhood security watch, the APC Chieftain stated that the APC presidential flagbearer is fully in support of state police but the reason why it was not specifically mentioned in the document was because it is a constitutional matter.
He added that the issue of state police is a constitutional matter over which Asiwaju has no control, but as soon as the Constitution is amended and state police is established, Asiwaju will be at the forefront to ensure that it remains properly established in all of the federation’s states and functions properly.
On the abuse of VIP security, Otunba Pedro stated that Asiwaju will confront the threat forcefully and boldly, ensuring that only those who have the constitutional requirement to be protected by separate police units will have it.
“Asiwaju paid special attention to policing, he will reform the
the police system, expand the number of policemen, train and equip them, and he also plans to also provide them with special protection in terms of insurance, empowerment, safety, and most of the things they lack today.
“So even the police should be smiling when they look at this renewed Hope manifesto.
Speaking on the Nigerian economy, Otunba stated that it is an economy that is very simple to understand.
According to him, the Nigerian economy has always been a mono-product economy, We rely on one product, which is oil. It is exported, it brings in foreign exchange, and we use it to fund our budget.
“We have over 120,000,000 able bodied men who can work, jobs must be created so that they can earn a living.
“In creating job, we must be producing something, this is the dot that Asiwaju is connecting in the manifesto.
“He promised to create sufficient jobs for the youth so they can have a better life.
“I have no doubt that this promises that he’s making, he will keep them, and we will see the rejuvenation of the Nigerian economy when we get to this level.
