The Federal Government and organised labour will meet today to discuss and possibly reach an agreement on the implementation of the new minimum wage of N30,000.
Today’s meeting will decide the fate of Nigeria’s industrial sector as organised labour insists it will embark on an indefinite strike if their demands are not met by the expiration of the 4-day ultimatum issued on Sunday.
The meeting is expected to be chaired by the minister of labour and employment Dr Chris Ngige, and Labour will be represented by the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council.
Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress have also been invited.
Labour is demanding twenty nine per cent salary increase for officers on grade level seven to fourteen and twenty four per cent adjustment for officers on grade level fifteen to seventeen.
This is against the Federal Government’s offer of eleven per cent for officers on grade level seven to fourteen and six point five per cent for workers of grade level fifteen to seventeen.
