Justice Yetunde Pinheiro of the High Court of Lagos State has set March 7 as the date for hearing all pending motions in a suit brought by Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who is challenging his removal.
The courtroom was packed full with several lawyers representing Mr Obasa, as well as Speaker Mojisola Meranda and other members of the House.

His impeachment on January 13, 2025, followed allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office, which led to his deputy, Mojisola Meranda, being elected and sworn in as his successor.
The defendants in the suit are Mrs Meranda, and the other lawmakers as well as the House of Assembly.
there was a mild drama over the counsel representing the House of Assembly. Femi Falana (SAN) initially announced his appearance for the House, but another counsel, Abang Mkpandiok told the court he was also representing the House, and brought an application for a Court order acknowledging the change of counsel.
But the judge ruled that all pending applications will be heard next Friday.
Before adjourning the case, the judge also granted an application of some other lawmakers seeking to be joined in the suit.
After the hearing, Mrs Meranda told journalists that her security detail which include 12 police officers and 4 DSS operatives have not been fully restored, as she only has about four police officers attached to her officers.
Meanwhile, there’s still heightened security around the premises of the Lagos State house of Assembly, the morning after Mudashiru Obasa returned to office, and held plenary with 4 lawmakers in attendance.
Mr Obasa who made his first appearance at the house since his removal as the Speaker on the 13th of January says, he was on vacation and is now back to carry on with his legislative duties as the Speaker of the house.
