The Court of Appeal in Abuja has stopped the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the Emir of Kano.
In a unanimous ruling, a three-member panel of justices led by Justice Okon Abang halted the implementation of a January 10th judgment that vacated the nullification of Muhammadu Sanusi II’s appointment by a Kano State High Court, which it ruled was made without authority.
The decision, delivered by Justice Gabriel Kolawole, concluded that the nullification of Emir Sanusi II’s appointment was done without the appropriate jurisdiction and ordered the suit to be transferred to the Kano State High Court.

Ruling on the fresh applications, the appellate court agreed that the applications seeking to stop the enforcement of the earlier judgment pending the appeal before the Supreme Court were competent and meritorious.
Justice Abang also held that the subject matter before the court needs to be preserved because the applicant had served as emir for five years before his removal, adding that he deserved the right to protection.
