A court in Burkina Faso has sentenced two people to life in prison for a fatal 2017 attack on a Turkish restaurant in the capital that killed 19 people, according to officials.
In August 2017, two gunmen opened fire at the Aziz Istanbul restaurant on the main avenue in Ouagadougou.
No one claimed responsibility for the incident. The victims were ten Burkinabé and nine foreigners.
The restaurant was about 200 metres from a hotel and cafe targeted in a January 2016 attack that killed 30 people and injured 71.
In March 2018, eight Burkinabe soldiers were killed during simultaneous attacks on the army headquarters and the French embassy.
Burkina Faso has been dealing with a spike in attacks by militant armed groups.
The fighting has driven nearly two million citizens to leave their homes.
