The Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has flagged of the selling of 199,495 litres of Premium Motor Spirit confiscated by his men in a major operation across Adamawa and Taraba states.
The fuel is sold at an auctioned price of six hundred and thirty naira (N630) per litre.
Smugglers are now deploying sophisticated concealment methods to move petroleum product out of the country.
But the men of Operation Whirlwind of the Nigeria custom service are now beating them in their game.
Four of the tankers contained 97,000 litres, along with 1,363 jerry cans of 25 litres each, amounting to 34,075 litres.
Additionally, 311 drums of 220 litres each, totalling 68,420 litres before it was intercepted
Addressing newsmen in Yola the custom controller general says the waterway patrols along the Dasin River played a crucial role in thwarting large-scale smuggling attempts by those he described as economic saboteurs
He warned that fuel smuggling depletes natural resources and undermines Nigeria’s economic stability.
At the end, the Customs Service assured Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to curbing smuggling, protecting national assets, and securing the country’s borders.
