The Economic Community of West African States has activated a Standby Force To Combat Terrorism in the Sahel.
The formation of the standby Force was announced at the meeting of the ECOWAS Committee of Defence Chiefs meeting in Abuja.
The formation of the force is also inteneded by the Bloc to address the unintended consequences of the withdrawal of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger Republic.
