Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has resigned his membership of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), to join the Social Democratic Party, the SDP.
In a statement issued Monday, El-Rufai accused APC leadership of abandoning the progressive ideals that once defined the party.
He says it’s time for a new platform to pursue the values he holds dear.
El-Rufai didn’t hold back, claiming the APC has ignored his concerns—voiced both privately and publicly—over the past two years.
He pointed to his eight-year tenure in Kaduna, where he championed progressive policies for human development, saying those efforts mean little in an APC he now calls ‘castrated’ and dismissive of its members.
The former governor has already submitted his resignation to his ward in Kaduna North and is rallying supporters to join him in the SDP, framing it as a united front to challenge the APC in future elections.
