Ex-agitators from the Niger Delta Region are satisfied with the performance of the administrator, Presidential Amnesty Program, Dennis Otuaro, and want more support for him from key players in the region.
The resolution was reached at the end of the expanded national meeting of the third phase camp leaders and beneficiaries in Yenagoa.
The Presidential Amnesty Program was established in 2009 by the Federal Government under the leadership of Late President Musa Ya’ Adua, with the objective of disarming, demobilizing, and facilitating the reintegration of former militants from the Niger Delta Region.
Although the programme has achieved some successes throughout its operation, it has faced numerous controversies, including issues related to transparency and accountability, Insufficient reintegration of ex-militants, inadequate distribution of benefits, as well as funding challenges.
These concerns may have prompted camp leaders and beneficiaries of the program’s Third phase to convene a national meeting in Yenagoa.
At the conclusion of the meeting, a resolution was reached that garnered the approval of all key players involved.
The participants also pass a vote of confidence in favour of the chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Program, Dennis Otuaro, as well as the national leadership of the initiative.
