A loud explosion has affected a section of the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP) in Bodo Community, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, sending thick black smoke into the sky and igniting a fast-spreading fire in the surrounding mangroves.
The incident occurred late Monday night near the ongoing Bodo-Bonny Road construction site.
Videos emerging on Tuesday morning showed flames raging through the area, raising concerns about potential environmental damage and disruption to oil transportation.
The Trans Niger Pipeline, a critical federal oil transport infrastructure, supplies crude to the Bonny Export Terminal in Rivers State.
When contacted, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that she would investigate the situation and provide updates.
However, no official response had been received at the time of filing this report.
