Governor of Kebbi state, Nasir Idris has renewed his commitment to the growth and sufficient funding of sports in the state, acknowledging the enormous benefits to both Kebbi and Nigeria.
Governor Idris characterised the CSDP Indoor Badminton Hall, the first of its kind in the North-West, as a landmark achievement while speaking during its commissioning ceremony in Birnin Kebbi.
The ultramodern hall, which was entirely funded by his government, realises the state’s long-held dream of having a world-class indoor sports centre.
He stated that Kebbi now stands proudly among its peers with this facility and promised to replicate such structures across the state to maximize the social and economic dividends of sports.
A passionate badminton enthusiast himself, Governor Idris, who serves as the Grand Patron of the club, emphasised the sport’s popularity and longevity fosters unity, love, and socioeconomic prosperity, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to its funding and promotion.
The Governor recalled that, in the past, the annual Kauran Gwandu National Badminton Competition was hosted in Abuja due to the lack of a standard facility in Kebbi, However, with the commissioning of the new hall, this year’s edition will be held in Birnin Kebbi.
The CSDP Badminton Club Chairman, Zubairu Sidi, promised that the facility would be used to its best potential in order to further elevate Kebbi, Nigeria, and Africa.
During the commissioning event, the Kauran Gwandu Youth Academy played an entertaining match, and Governor Idris received a memento in appreciation of his contributions to the growth of badminton in Kebbi.
