Women in Nigeria are joining their counterparts around the world to mark International Women’s Day.
It is a celebration which gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and abuse against women.
The theme for this year is “Accelerate Action”.
The Lagos State Government is asking women to take charge of their future.
The celebration brought together women from diverse backgrounds, ages and professions, all united by the common goal of promoting gender equality and empowerment.

The event featured inspiring speeches, all cantered around the theme ‘Accelerate Action’ which underscores the urgency of addressing persistent inequalities and barriers that hinder women from realizing their full potential.
Governor Babaiide Sanwo-Olu has been a strong advocate for women’s empowerment in Lagos State. His administration has implemented various initiatives aimed at bridging the gender gap.
The guest speaker, Professor Olurotimi Coker, a professor of Psychiatry at the Lagos State University College of Medicine, lectured women on the need to strike a balance in order to achieve their dreams.
As women play multiple social roles, they are prone to maternal depression, but there are preventive measures to take he said.
