The Jigawa State government in north-western Nigeria has reduced working hours for civil servants during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
A statement from the State Head of the Civil Service, Muhammad Dagaceri, says the new working hours will be from 09:00 to 3:00, Monday to Thursday.
On Fridays, civil servants will work from 09:00 to 01:00.
Governor Umar Namadi says the decision is to allow civil servants more time for prayers and other spiritual activities during Ramadan.
The governor has also urged civil servants to use the period to pray for peace and prosperity in Jigawa State and Nigeria.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting and spiritual reflection.
