As part of renewed efforts to curb environmental violations and enhance public safety, the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has arrested 52 suspects — 51 males and one female — for various offences.
Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, Director of Public Affairs for the Lagos State Taskforce, confirmed the development in a statement issued to journalists.
The arrests took place during a routine enforcement and clean-up operation on Saturday, 26 April 2025.
The operation, which commenced at approximately 12:35 a.m., was led by the Chairman of the Agency, CSP Adetayo Akerele.
It targeted key areas including Lekki, Ikoyi, Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel, and Ligali Ayorinde, following numerous complaints and distress calls about the activities of street urchins, miscreants, hooligans, pickpockets, and other suspected criminals, particularly during late hours.
“With this development, the Agency has successfully restored order and sanity to all locations visited,” Abdulraheem stated.
Speaking on the outcome of the exercise, CSP Akerele warned criminal elements to desist from activities that threaten the peace and security of residents. He reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and maintaining environmental decorum across the state.
“We will continue to sustain these enforcement exercises until every part of the city is free from criminal activities,” Akerele declared.
“Those who choose to engage in acts that threaten the serenity and security of residents must desist immediately or face the full weight of the law,” he added.
According to Akerele, the exercise is part of a broader strategy to conduct routine enforcement operations at least twice monthly, with the goal of gradually eliminating criminal activities and protecting law-abiding citizens and businesses.
All suspects arrested during the operation will be charged to court accordingly.
The Lagos State Taskforce reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safer, cleaner, and more secure environment for all Lagosians.
