The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man found in possession of a fresh human head in the Evbuotubu area of Benin.
According to the command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, the suspect was detained in the early hours of Friday by officers from the Evbuotubu Division, in collaboration with local vigilantes. During interrogation, he led officers to a decapitated body discovered near Eweka Shopping Plaza.
The victim was later identified as 43-year-old Edobor Lawrence from Osagie Street, Evbuotubu Quarters. His remains have been transferred to a hospital for preservation as investigations proceed.
The State Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, expressed her condolences to the victim’s family and assured the public that all individuals involved in the crime would face justice.
She urged young people to pursue lawful means of livelihood and cautioned against engaging in criminal activities.
The police have appealed to residents to report any suspicious behaviour as they continue their efforts to ensure public safety.
