The National Examinations Council (NECO) has procured a state-of-the-art Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) Scanner to improve the efficiency, credibility, and security of its examinations.
NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, emphasized Thursday that the newly installed scanner at the ICT Department in Minna is part of the Council’s ongoing efforts to improve accuracy, speed, and reliability in its examination processes.
Prof. Wushishi emphasized that the Scantron Insight 1500c is a high-performance OMR scanner known for its accuracy, speed, and capacity to handle massive volumes of scripts.
“With this new acquisition, we will greatly improve our data processing capabilities, ensuring quicker and more accurate results for millions of candidates worldwide,” he stated.
He further explained that the scanner can process over 15,000 OMR sheets per hour, or 250 sheets per minute, significantly boosting NECO’s capacity for examination script evaluation.
The Registrar disclosed that the high-speed scanning machine, which cost approximately N500 million, has the capability to simultaneously scan and score OMR sheets, reinforcing NECO’s commitment to integrating advanced technology into its examination procedures.
Mr. Goddy Usioboh, Director of the ICT Department, noted that acquiring the scanner aligns with NECO’s vision of delivering world-class examination services while upholding the integrity of its assessments.
Additionally, Mr. Tom Harry, a technical adviser from Scantron Company, Minnesota, USA, trained NECO’s ICT staff on operating the new scanner. He commended their dedication and professionalism throughout the training process.
