Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi has called on the Northwest Development Commission (NDC) to focus on long-term projects that will tackle poverty, insecurity, and economic challenges in the region.
He said this when he received the commission’s leadership at the Government House in Dutse.
Governor Namadi said the Northwest has the potential to for economic prosperity, but must take a strategic approach to development.
He added that Northwest cannot afford to remain the poorest region in the country, having have both human and material resources to change the narrative.
Namadi noted that the NDC must not be seen as a palliative-giving agency but as a serious development body.
The governor urged the commission to work closely with state governments, understand the specific needs of each state, and prioritise key areas such as infrastructure, education, and security.
The Chairman of the NDC, Lawal Sama’ila Abdullahi, acknowledged the enormity of challenges facing the region but said the commission was determined to make a difference.
He said Jigawa State, with its strong Agricultural base, would be a key partner in efforts to boost food production and Agro-industrial development.
The NDC was established to drive economic development and address critical challenges in the Northwest.
