The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has expressed condolences to the nation’s Catholic community and the wider Christian world following the death of Pope Francis.
In a statement, the NSCIA praised the late pontiff as a “humble and God-fearing” leader, highlighting his final public appeal for a ceasefire in Gaza as proof of his dedication to global justice.
The council also used the occasion to reaffirm its commitment to interfaith dialogue and peacebuilding in Nigeria and beyond.
“In honour of the late Pope’s legacy, we renew our pledge to foster understanding among all religions,” the statement read.
The NSCIA concluded by praying for divine comfort for grieving Catholics and wisdom in selecting a new pontiff who upholds fairness and righteousness.
