Farmers in Ondo State are set to benefit from new government initiatives, aimed at boosting agriculture production and ensuring food security.
The Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Agriculture and Agribusiness, Wemimo Akinsola disclosed this at a meeting with farmers from the three senatorial districts of the state.
Agriculture used to be the mainstay of Nigeria’s economy before the discovery of oil.

At different fora, stakeholders have stressed the need for diversification of the country’s economy, with a special focus on agriculture.
Ondo State is determined to engage farmers on ways to boost food and cash crop production.
The issue was discussed at a meeting between government officials and farmers across the eighteen local government areas of the state.
Addressing the farmers in Akure, the Senior Special Assistant to the State Governor on Agriculture and Agribusiness said the meeting is part of efforts towards the development of agriculture.
According to him, the state government needs the collaboration of farmers to ensure that its plans for sufficient food production succeed.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Ondo state agricultural commodities association, Abiodun Adejo urged farmers to come together, form a cooperative society and become a pressure group.
With the rainy season approaching, the State Government is determined to assist farmers to boost food production.
