Over 211,000 candidates participated in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Mock exam on Thursday, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The mock exam was conducted in various accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across Nigeria.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this while overseeing the exercise at a CBT centre in Bwari, Abuja.
He stated that results of the mock exam would be released on Friday.
“They’ll get their results tomorrow. We’re currently processing the scores of those who have completed the exam, and we’ll compare the outcomes from various batches to ensure everything is functioning properly,” he said.
Prof. Oloyede explained that the mock exam is designed to assess the board’s readiness for the main UTME and to trial new innovations aimed at improving the examination process.
“The mock is essentially a trial run. As candidates become more sophisticated, we also need to upgrade our strategies. This gives us a chance to learn and refine our systems ahead of the main exam,” he noted.
The Registrar expressed concern over some candidates resorting to fake websites in attempts to cheat.
In response, JAMB has launched a decoy website to identify and trap those involved.
“We want to emphasize that the only way to succeed in UTME is through genuine preparation. Unfortunately, some students are falling for scams, paying money to sites that claim they can help. We’ve set up our own fake website and already, about 180 candidates have been caught making payments,” he revealed.
Oloyede warned that such actions are punishable, noting that those caught will face strict penalties, including cancellation of their UTME and Direct Entry results.
He cautioned candidates against sharing their registration details or registering through proxies, as these actions often lead to exploitation by schools or individuals looking to manipulate scores for prestige.
“Some students are paying as much as N30,000 for fraudulent services that will never work. It’s unfortunate, and we advise all candidates to avoid such traps,” he added.
The main 2025 UTME is scheduled to begin on April 25 across approved CBT centres nationwide.
