Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has revealed plans to establish an Amotekun Unit equipped with aircraft for surveillance, drones, and two airstrips to combat insecurity and other illicit activities across all forests in the State.
Governor Makinde made this known during the inauguration of Amotekun Forest Rangers in Iseyin, Oyo state.
After several months of intensive military training, these 480 officers of the Western Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, are now passing out having being equipped to safeguard forests across Oyo State.
They will be deployed as a sub unit of the across 25 local governments in Oyo state to combat insecurity such as kidnapping, banditry and other illicit activities, ensuring the protection of lives, properties and natural resources with the State.
Governor Makinde In his address, emphasized that besides providing for the corps members’ welfare, his administration will make necessary provisions to facilitate the smooth execution of their duties.
The passing-out ceremony for additional Amotekun recruits brings the total number of corps members to 2,500, and are expected augment the efforts of existing security agencies, to maintain law and order in Oyo State.
The training of the Oyo Amotekun corps members marks a significant milestone in enhancing the security architecture of Oyo State.
