Kebbi State Command has intensified efforts to address the menace of tanker explosion through proactive safety education and stakeholders’ engagement.
This is sequel to tragic wave of tanker explosions and gas-related incidents that have recently claimed countless lives and wanton destruction properties worth Millions of Naira across the Federation.
In order to ensure the safety and security of the good people of Kebbi State, the Commander, Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Base 26, Kebbi State, SP Abubakar Yahaya held a comprehensive Sensitization Programme on the implications of Explosions at the Conference Hall, State Headquarters, Gwadangaji, in Birnin Kebbi.
The sensitization was designed to equip the participants with the requisite knowledge on the nature, causes, and preventive measures as well as how to manage the scene of explosions, especially those resulting from gas leakages, chemical reactions, and mechanical failures often linked to tanker accidents and industrial operations.
The State Commander also reiterated the importance of acquiring personal protective equipment regular maintenance of equipment, and adherence to best safety practices.
In attendance were critical stakeholders whose daily activities involved significant exposure to explosion risks, such as:
The National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO); PENGASON;
The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW); State Trailer and Tanker Welders Association; NUPENG
Mechanics associations; and Scraft Association.
The forum provided an avenue where participants engaged in fruitful discussions, shared experiences, and offered solutions and recommendations with a view to enhance public safety and preventing future tragedies.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M Sani thanked the participants for honouring the Command’s invitation and urged all the stakeholders and general public to remain vigilant and adhere strictly to the highlighted safety guidelines.
