The Rivers State House of Assembly has called on security agencies to investigate allegations surrounding the credentials of the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Amadi.
He is the latest government official to come under legislative scrutiny as the political crisis in the state deepens.
The power struggle between the legislature and Governor Siminalayi Fubara continues to claim more high-profile casualties in Rivers State.
From questioning the legitimacy of commissioners and other appointments to summoning the management of the State Electoral Commission, lawmakers have intensified their oversight activities.
Now, they have turned their focus to the Chief Judge, citing possible age falsification in his official records.
In their contributions, lawmakers expressed concerned that the
allegation puts the credibility of the judiciary at stake.
The House did not provide details of the allegation.
But with very little hope of getting answers from the state government, it is turning to federal agencies.
With a resolution now passed on the matter, the House proceeded to schedule a public hearing for two separate bills aimed at repealing the existing Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and Local Government laws.
This latest development underscores the escalating tensions between the state legislature and the executive, with no end in sight to the ongoing power struggle.
