The Rivers State House of Assembly has passed three bills into law.
Among the bill passed is a controversial new Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission Law which comes as the clock ticks towards fresh Local Government elections.
Others are the Rivers State Powers and Privileges Law and the Rivers State Local Government Law.
The House described the passage of the laws as a legislative intervention aimed at strengthening laws of the state.
The bills, which were passed during the Assembly’s 136th Legislative Sitting on Friday, will be forwarded to Governor Siminalayi Fubara for assent.
The Speaker, Martin Chike Amaewhule, stated that the House was simply seeking the domestication of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act of 2017 that gave certain powers and privileges to the legislature in the performance of its function.
