The Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule has described the presentation of the 2025 budget as illegal.
The lawmakers condemned the Governor’s action during thier sitting in Port Harcourt.
The validity of the 2024 budget is still an ongoing discussion.
And adding to the controversy, is that of 2025.
This Assembly maintains its position that it is the legally constituted
and recognized legislature.
So, the Governor’s presentation of both appropriation bills to any other entity is null and void.
The House views the latest development as a disregard of court
judgments and an abuse of power.
As the executive carries on with its business, this House is holding on
to the confidence that the judiciary will settle the matter once and
for all.
The House says it is still expecting the 2024 appropriation bill for
consideration and as things stand, that of 2025 as well.
Until then they insist that Rivers state is being run without a budget.
