Poor intelligence gathering, lack of synergy among security agencies and excessive use of drugs, have been identified as some of the factors responsible for rising cases of crime in Nigeria.
These were the views of heads of security agencies at the Ondo State Youth Stakeholders’ Security Summit, held at the International Culture and Events Centre in Akure.
A report by the International Organisation for Peace Building and Social Justice shows that 70 percent of youth in Nigeria goes into crime, due to lack of economic opportunities and poverty.

The need to engage the youth in tackling security challenges in the country came to the fore, at the Ondo State Youth Stakeholders’ Security Summit.
At an event in Akure, heads of security agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, said tackling insecurity requires collaborative efforts.
The State Commander of NDLEA, Kayode Raji stated that drug abuse aids criminal activities and other social vices.
The organisers and security personnel urged security agencies to engage youths to drive efforts to secure the country.
