Troops of the Nigerian Military have repelled an attack by elements of ISWAP and Boko Haram in Damboa Borno State.
This was contained in a Press Statement by the Director of Defence Media Operation, Major General Edward Buba.
According to him the terrorists launched the attack on Troops in Damboa to avenge the recent killing of their commander an other foot soldiers.
They were however repelled by troops on fighting patrol with many of the attackers killed in the process.
Troops of the Operation Hadin Kai also conducted an air interdiction exercise as part of the efforts to repel the attack and clear the escaping remnants of the attackers.
Battle damage assessment revealed many terrorists killed while weapons of various calibres were recovered.
6 Personnel of the Nigerian Military lost their lives in the attack while an Improvised Explosives Device used by the terrorists injured the leader of the local Vigilante group who were also part of the successful effort that thwarted the attack.

1. On 4 January 2025, an unspecified number of ISWAP/BHT terrorist riding on motor cycles and Gun trucks engaged troops deployed in Sabon Gari Village of Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State in a fire fight. The terrorist had attempted to surprise troops and retaliate the recent killing of their commander and combatants by troops.
2. The terrorist were taken unaware, when troops fighting patrol returning to base foiled their planned attack as soon as the attack commenced. Additionally,troops reinforcement team comprised of elements of Civilian Joint Taskforce, vigilante as well as hybrid forces timely arrived the scene to over power the terrorists.
3. Furthermore , though troops reinforcement team encountered Improvise Explosive Device injuring the Vigilante Commander. The reinforcement team arrived timely to decimate the fleeing terrorist.
4. Furthermore, the air component of Operation Hadin Kai conducted air interdiction on the fleeing terrorist. Battle Damage Assessment revealed several killed terrorists and recovered weapons.
5. On the whole, 34 terrorist were killed and 23 AK 47 weapons recovered. Troops also recovered with over 200 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunitions. Sadly, 6 personnel were killed in action.

profoundly conscious of its role and responsibility in ending insurgency and terrorism in the nation. Accordingly, troops remain committed to the course of defeating with the terrorists.
